Oranjestad- St. Eustatius is in mourning the loss of former State Secretary Maria Bass, who served under Prime Minister Miguel Pourier.
PLP-leader and island councilman Clyde van Putten, described Miss Bass as having served her country and people with distinction and commitment, always discharging her duties with integrity, diligence, and compassion. “Maria was a serious and no-nonsense person and administrator, who always demanded excellence and accountability from those whom she worked with. She was trustworthy, loyal, and at all times kept her word, one could always count on her. Maria was also a true patriot and stalwart in her Christian belief”, says Van Putten.
“She served the country with pride and distinction, and for her contributions we all owe her eternal gratitude. On behalf of the Government and people of St. Eustatius I would like to extend my most profound condolences to her immediate and extended family, and also to her many colleagues and friends who worked with her over the years in Sint Maarten, Sint Eustatius, and elsewhere, and pray that they may find strength and comfort in dealing with this loss”, according to Van Putten on Sunday in a letter to the press.
The PLP-leader also stated his government would attend the funeral services, once details were known.
