Oranjestad- The Democratic Party of St. Eustatius is holding its General Membership Meeting coming Saturday May 5th at the Ernest van Putten Youth Center a.k.a. the Lions Den.
According to DP, during the meeting a new president and party board will be elected. Sitting president, Winston Fleming, has postulated himself for reelection. Most of the other board members have also indicated as well to be available for a new two-year term.
There will however be a possibility for other candidates to postulate themselves from the floor during the meeting.
An important item at the meeting, according to the political party, will be a discussion on the present political and governmental situation Statia is in since on February 7th the temporary law on the neglect of tasks St. Eustatius (Tijdelijke Wet Taakverwaarlozing Sint Eustatius). Under the law the island council has been dissolved and executive council and island governor have been dismissed.
DP says that will be discussion about questions about the status, the reason for the implementation of the law and expectations for the future. According to the DP press statement about the meeting, the meeting will be concluded with some refreshments and a snack.
