The Bottom, Saba- Saba has his first confirmed Corona case. This was confirmed by Island Governor Jonathan Johnsen this evening via local radio.
The health authorities had tested three suspicious cases, one of which is turned out to be positive. There is no definite answer yet about the other two tests.
The patient who has corona is considered ‘locally infected’ because they have no travel history in the last few weeks. According to Johnson, the patient’s symptoms are relatively mild.
According to Governor Johnson, this is an indication that the virus is already on the island and that more infections could follow.
Saba had already taken measures to stop the arrival of the virus, for example, the airport had been closed since mid-March. Measures will now be tightened, starting with a 2-week lock down.
The confirmation of a positive Covid-19 case on Saba means that now only Bonaire has zero confirmed cases among the Dutch Caribbean and BES-islands.
