Consumer Association Bonaire Partners with Government to Address Chinese Labels in Supermarkets
KRALENDIJK – The Bonaire Consumer Foundation (FTPKB) and the Inspection & Enforcement Department (T&H) of the Public Entity Bonaire (OLB) have taken joint action against products in supermarkets that do not comply with regulations.
During a recent meeting between FTPKB and T&H, it was found that food products imported from China with labels exclusively in Chinese violate legal requirements for clear consumer information.
As a result of this meeting, the inspector ordered a supermarket on the island to remove the non-compliant products from its shelves.
Protection
According to the director of FTPKB, Giovanna Frans, collaboration and reports from consumers are crucial to better protect consumer rights. “Consumers are our eyes and ears. Thanks to their reports, we can act more quickly to safeguard their rights.”
