KPCN intensifies traffic controls: fines up to 225 dollar for offenders

KRALENDIJK – The Dutch Caribbean Police Force (KPCN) has announced intensified traffic controls on Bonaire. In recent days, several fines have been issued for driving without insurance, invalid driver’s licenses, and using phones while driving. Fines for these violations can amount to $225.

The police emphasize the importance of wearing seatbelts. “Wearing a seatbelt reduces the chance of a fatal accident by 30 to 40 percent,” according to KPCN. “For rear passengers, wearing a seatbelt reduces the risk of serious injury by 20 percent.”

With the upcoming weekend, the police also warn against drunk driving. Drivers are required to cooperate with breathalyzer tests during controls. A positive result will lead to further breath analysis at the police station. Offenders risk fines, license suspension, or even imprisonment.

KPCN maintains a ‘crash means breathalyzer’ policy: all drivers involved in accidents are routinely tested for alcohol consumption.
