Oranjestad- A small but very colorful and well organized Carnival parade dazzled onlookers in Statia this year. There was a total of 4 troupes in the parade.

Many spectators remarked that the costumes this year looked better than ever and showed off a lot of hard word that was put in by the troupes to make this years’ Carnival a memorable one. There was high praise for all the troupes, led by Julisa Woodley, Teena Lopes, Joan Windefelde and Sjudi Redan.

Another success was the King of Kings election which took place this year instead of a Queen election. Promoter Shirley Schmidt decided to organize the male version of the Queen’s contest after she was unable to guarantee sufficient participation. It turned out to be a very good decision. The contest was popular and the show of a high level.
