ORANJESTAD, St. Eustatius – Shatasia Parris, student of the Gwendoline van Putten School and A+ Academic Professional Training Centre, has been chosen to represent Statia at the 2025 State of the Tourism Industry Conference (SOTIC) Youth Congress on October 2 at the Hilton Barbados Resort.

Parris will join junior ministers and commissioners of tourism from 16 Caribbean nations in presenting ideas on sustainable tourism, innovation, and community engagement. She will also take part in training sessions, including a teen career workshop designed to build leadership skills.

Mentorship

As Statia’s junior commissioner of tourism, Parris will receive mentorship from the St. Eustatius Tourism Development Foundation and regional industry experts during her one-year term. “Her enthusiasm and commitment to sustainable tourism embody the spirit of Statia’s youth,” said STDF director Maya Pandt.
