ORANJESTAD, St. Eustatius – Golden Rock Dive and Nature Resort on St. Eustatius has been awarded two international eco-certifications: the Green Globe Certification and the Green Key Award. Both recognitions are considered established standards in the field of sustainable tourism.

The Green Globe Certification acknowledges the resort’s practices in energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction and community engagement. The Green Key Award, coordinated by the Foundation for Environmental Education, is given to hospitality providers that meet strict criteria on environmental responsibility, waste management and sustainability education.

According to Golden Rock, the resort which opened in 2021, has undertaken a range of sustainability initiatives in recent years. These include the installation of a 2,240-panel solar park, a reverse osmosis system to produce drinking water from seawater, and wastewater filtering for irrigation. The resort also operates a large organic greenhouse to supply produce for its restaurants and has planted over 140,000 plants, trees and flowers on the property.

Independent assessments

The certifications follow independent assessments of the resort’s environmental management and place it among a group of tourism providers worldwide recognized for sustainable operations.
