KRALENDIJK – Since Tuesday, the 51st army company has been conducting exercises on Bonaire. The company, which is stationed on Curaçao, carries out the exercises to stay well prepared for its duties. In addition, the exercises offer an opportunity to become familiar with the local environment and to strengthen cooperation with local authorities and emergency services.
During the exercises, the soldiers are housed at the scouting club in Rincon. The unit is also carrying out certain activities with a social purpose.
The exercises take place at various locations, including Plantation Bolivia, the coastal area near Washikemba, and the shooting range near Washikemba. Blank ammunition is used at these locations — not live rounds. Residents in the area may therefore occasionally hear gunshots.
