Another major fire develops at Bonaire landfill on Tuesday evening
KRALENDIJK – A relative large fire broke out again Tuesday evening at the island’s landfill, which is increasingly seen not only as problematic but also as potentially dangerous.
Due to heavy smoke, several residents were reportedly forced to evacuate, though the scale of the evacuation remains unclear. By midnight, neither the island government nor Selibon, the waste management company responsible for the site, had issued an official statement.
Earlier in the week, there had already been complaints about smoke odors, but the fire flared up fully on Tuesday night, with a red glow visible from a distance.
Meeting
Radio station Live99 reported that the Pro Lagun group, an advocate for residents affected by the situation, gathered in Wilhelmina Park on Tuesday evening to discuss the fire.
