Statia 2026 Initiative Unveils Twelve Transformative Projects
ORANJESTAD – Sint Eustatius is gearing up for significant transformation as part of the Statia 2026 initiative, which encompasses no less than 12 ambitious projects, six of which are funded through the Region Deal.
The projects include the renovation of Fort Oranje and the Government Guesthouse, the revitalization of the Miriam C. Schmith Botanical Garden, the development of the Madam Theatre, the restoration of Battery Rotterdam and Battery Amsterdam, and the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the First Salute during Statia Day 2026.
The initiative also involves the creation of a Visitor Economy Master Plan to guide sustainable tourism growth. Complementary projects, such as building a new healthcare center, educational improvements, sustainable infrastructure, environmental initiatives, and economic diversification, aim to enhance the quality of life for residents while positioning Statia as a model for sustainable development.
Hidden Potential
Commissioner Rechelline Leerdam highlighted the importance of the Region Deal during its launch, stating, “The Region Deal is more than just financial support—it’s a chance to unlock Statia’s long-hidden potential. These projects will deliver social and economic benefits, impacting both present and future generations.”
