Executive Council Bonaire Charts Progress in 2024 and Sets Goals for 2025
KRALENDIJK – On Wednesday, the Executive Council of Bonaire issued a press release reflecting on an intensive year marked by planning efforts and the creation of financial space. Key milestones in 2024 included addressing a significant budget deficit, investments in infrastructure and water management, and the establishment of a legal support office
Through the Regional Deal (Regiodeal), €15 million was requested for projects such as a multifunctional center and affordable public transportation. Progress was also made in housing development, including affordable housing projects in Rincon Pariba and Dawari.
According to the Executive Council, successes were also achieved in waste management, youth policy, and socio-cultural activities. Papiamentu was recognized as an official language, and awareness campaigns like “Boneiru nos Deber i nos Orguyo” were launched. Infrastructure projects included improvements in drainage and the renovation of the Malekon.
Ambitions
For 2025, the Executive Council’s goals focus on improving public services, promoting sustainable energy, tackling poverty, and expanding affordable housing. Strengthening operational capacity remains a challenge, with efforts directed toward recruiting local professionals and assembling skilled teams.
