KRALENDIJK—The Public Entity Bonaire (PEB) has announced its intention to make a parcel of public land in Sorobon available to Frans Paradise N.V. The parcel, which has been used for several years by the company owned by the Frans brothers for a windsurfing school, will now be officially leased out. This move appears to bring an end to a long-standing issue surrounding the location.

On September 3, 2024, the Executive Council granted an environmental permit for the operation of the surf school and the construction of associated facilities. An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was prepared as part of the process. The Public Entity sees sufficient grounds to lease the parcel directly to Frans Paradise without a public selection procedure. This is partly because the environmental permit has already been issued and there are no other interested parties for the parcel.

Resolution

Additionally, there are already several windsurfing schools established in the immediate vicinity, which, according to the Public Entity, provides adequate competitive space. With this step, the prolonged uncertainty about the future of the parcel in Sorobon now seems to finally be resolved.
