KRALENDIJK—On Wednesday, Governor John Soliano of Bonaire responded to troubling reports about statements allegedly made during a recent public meeting of religious organizations targeting the LGBTQI+ community.

Soliano emphasized that fundamental rights such as freedom of speech and religion are important, but must always be exercised with respect for others.

The governor stressed that it is essential for everyone to feel safe and accepted on Bonaire. He has discussed the incident with the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the police and is calling for dialogue and mutual respect.

Diverse Yet Peaceful

“Bonaire is a diverse society where we live together in peace despite our differences,” said the governor. He hopes that organizations and groups will engage in dialogue to contribute to a more inclusive and respectful Bonaire.
