Governor Soliano Calls for Unity and Cooperation in New Year’s Speech
KRALENDIJK – Island Governor John Soliano reflected on his first five months in office during his New Year’s speech, describing the period as one filled with decisions and challenges. He expressed gratitude to the community for their support and constructive criticism: “This was a stimulus for my growth in this role.”
Soliano highlighted Bonaire’s positive economic development, noting the low unemployment rate and active labor market. However, he cautioned that growth comes with challenges: “We cannot develop ourselves by keeping everything the same.” According to the governor, self-discipline and personal responsibility are essential for the well-being of future generations.
The governor also underscored the importance of inclusivity for the island. “We are an inclusive island, and this means that we all need to work on this inclusivity.”
He concluded by thanking everyone who contributed to Bonaire’s success in 2024 and emphasized the island’s high happiness level: “Happiness is not a destination but a mindset.” Soliano ended his speech with a call for unity and cooperation in 2025.
