Protective Net Averts Crisis Behind Fuel Depot St. Eustatius
Oranjestad – A major incident was avoided overnight in Sint Eustatius when a large boulder detached from the cliff behind the STUCO fuel depot. The recently installed protective net intercepted the falling rock, preventing potential damage to critical infrastructure.
The Harbour Master and Crisis Coordinator are currently assessing the area’s safety, while the Department of ENI, in collaboration with contractors, is working to remove the boulder promptly.
This incident highlights the Public Entity’s proactive measures to address erosion and rockfall risks, ensuring the safety of residents, businesses, and vital infrastructure. The Public Entity thanks the community for their understanding and cooperation as efforts continue to secure long-term solutions.
