Traffic Accidents on St. Eustatius On The Rise: Poor Infrastructure and Alcohol Use Among Key Factors

ORANJESTAD- From a study recently executed by analysts of the Police Force Caribbean Netherlands (KPCN) the research period, it was noticeable that the number of collisions and accidents on St. Eustatius has increased in the year 2024.
There are various factors which can contribute to the increase in traffic infractions. KPCN mentions that there are more larger cars, more scooters and more bicycles. KPCN also notes that the road on St. Eustaitus are relatively narrow, poorly maintained, and often lack bicycle or pedestrian paths.
Alcohol
Furthermore, during events and weekends, people frequently drive home under the influence of alcohol, a practice that is socially tolerated.
