1.7 Kilo Cocaine Found in Passenger’s Suitcase at Flamingo Airport

Kralendijk- On December 6th , 2019, members of the Douane Caribisch Nederland (Customs Caribbean Netherlands) intercepted 1700 grams of cocaine during a routine inspection with a customs drug dog at Flamingo International Airport of Bonaire.

The cocaine was found in the suitcase of a male passenger of 44 years on  an outbound flight to The Netherlands. When checking the outgoing baggage with a customs drug dog, the drug dog gave a sign near the suitcase. The owner of the suitcase was questioned and asked to open the suitcase. The sides of the case appeared to be unusually thick and white powder was found.

After a thorough investigation it was determined that the substance encountered was cocaine, with a gross weight of 1700 grams.

Investigation

The passenger was detained by customs and transferred to the Royal Military Police (KMAR) for further investigation. The cocaine was seized and also transferred to the Royal Military Police(KMAR)  for further investigation.

Customs say they remain alert for attempts of smuggling illegal products in or out of the Caribbean Netherlands.
