Port St. Maarten Group Launches Pilot Project to Ease Simpson Bay Traffic
PHILIPSBURG- The Port St. Maarten Group (PSG) subsidiary, Simpson Bay Lagoon Authority (SLAC), has announced the implementation of a pilot project designed to alleviate traffic congestion in Simpson Bay and the surrounding areas. The initiative, which goes into effect on Thursday, December 26, 2024, will involve changes to the opening schedules of the Simpson Bay and Causeway Bridges.
As part of the project, the opening time of the Simpson Bay Bridge will be adjusted from 3:00 PM to 2:00 PM, while the Causeway Bridge opening will shift from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM. These changes aim to ease traffic flow, particularly benefiting motorists, taxi drivers, passengers arriving at Princess Juliana International Airport, and tour companies during the busy tourism season.
This initiative is a collaborative effort between PSG, the St. Maarten Police Force (KPSM), and the St. Maarten Marine Trades Association (SMMTA). The project’s effectiveness in improving vehicle traffic flow in areas such as Maho, Simpson Bay, and Cole Bay will be closely monitored by all stakeholders.
For further details, the community and maritime sector are encouraged to reach out to PSG or follow updates through their official communication channels.
