Executive Council Bonaire Meets Minister Van Weel of Justice & Security

KRALENDIJK – On January 13, the full Executive Council of Bonaire held an introductory meeting with Minister of Justice & Security, David van Weel, during his working visit to the island.

In addition to meeting the island’s leadership, the minister visited institutions such as the Public Prosecutor’s Office, KPCN, and the Judicial Institution Caribbean Netherlands.

The Executive Council raised several key issues with the minister, including the absence of the Bibob Act and the Administrative Fine, which are critical for combating money laundering and promoting good governance. The Council also pressed for the ratification of the Istanbul Convention for Bonaire, Saba, and Sint Eustatius, aimed at addressing (domestic) violence against women and girls.

Positive

Plans for a Family Justice Center and a safe schools agreement, with a central role for KPCN, were also discussed. The Executive Council described the meeting with Minister Van Weel as positive and expressed optimism about further collaboration.
