Fire Guts ‘Old School’ Building in Statia
Oranjestad, St. Eustatius- A fire which started yesterday evening around 10 PM has left the historical building known as ‘Old School’ severely damaged.
The Fire Department was at the site pretty fast, but could not prevent the firing causing a lot of damage. The efforts of the firemen concentrated on preventing even more damage to the other parts of the building.
The fire was contained relatively quickly, but the Fire Department was busy until around 2 PM with the wetting of the building, to prevent the fire to break out again.
The building, located at the Breedeweg, has know various functions, but as of late served as social housing managed by the Housing Foundation.
The tenants of the gutted building have temporarily been accommodated at the Golden Era hotel.
