The Bottom, Saba- As part of the annual hurricane exercise HUREX, the Royal Nethrlands Navy vessel HMS Pelikaan visited Saba on Monday, June 24.
A group of 13 people of the so-called Rapid Infra Assessment Team explored the island and made an assessment of all possible infra-related structures. Also, a group of new marines visited Saba on Monday. Part of the usual program is the hike to the top of Mount Scenery.
A new element during this year’s HUREX was the Anaconda military vehicle. This 4 x 4 truck which can go across heavy terrain and take goods to carry to people in need in the aftermath of a crisis. Dutch Defence has bought this all-terrain vehicle for the Dutch Caribbean. HMS Pelikaan brought the Anaconda to check how it functions on Saba.
Disaster Management and Public Order representatives of the Public Entity Saba as well as the Caribbean Netherlands Police Force on Saba visited HMS Pelikaan to get an impression of what this vessel can contribute to Saba in case of emergencies.
