Island Council Bonaire Holds Talks in the Netherlands to Strengthen Cooperation

KRALENDIJK—From January 24 to 29, 2025, a delegation from the Island Council of Bonaire paid a working visit to the Netherlands. The delegation, consisting of council members Désirée Coffie, Benito Dirksz, Cyril Vrolijk, and Salma Serberie, along with the council secretary, aimed to strengthen cooperation with Dutch government institutions and better align administrative and democratic processes.

The delegation held discussions with the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK), the municipalities of The Hague and Albrandswaard, and attended a book presentation by the Bonairean youth organization BIT Lab. During the meetings with BZK, topics included the progress of the Bilt agreements, enhancing the oversight role of the Island Council, and addressing support needs for urgent matters on Bonaire.

With the municipality of The Hague, the focus was on information processes related to council inquiries and cost management, while the meeting with Albrandswaard explored collaboration and support programs for council members and the secretary. Additionally, during the BIT Lab book presentation, the delegation discussed ways to support research on Bonaire and leverage the talents of young people for local projects.

The working visit marks a significant step in strengthening ties between Bonaire and the Netherlands, emphasizing both administrative cooperation and the development of Bonairean youth.
