The Valley, Anguilla – Effective January 15, 2025, the Government of Anguilla and the Anguilla Air & Sea Ports Authority (AASPA) have revoked the Winter 2025 Seasonal Permit granted to Silver Airways for its Puerto Rico-to-Anguilla route.

The decision follows the airline’s failure to pay outstanding fees amounting to $103,549.15, accrued since May 2023. Despite multiple attempts to resolve the issue and prior warnings about the impact of non-payment on its permit, Silver Airways failed to settle its debt before filing for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy on December 30, 2024.

The government stated that Silver Airways is now unable to make payments or enter repayment agreements due to bankruptcy restrictions. Additionally, the airline has not provided sufficient information regarding the implications of its bankruptcy on its operations but sought to continue flying into Anguilla without addressing its debt.

Unfavorable precedent

AASPA emphasizes that allowing Silver Airways to operate without compensation would set an unfavorable precedent and harm aviation stakeholders, government operations, and the tourism sector. While open to revisiting arrangements in the future, Anguilla has defended its right to deny operations to entities unable to meet their financial obligations.
