116 volunteers help with Ocean Cleanup in Bonaire

Kralendijk- Dive Friends Bonaire STINAPA Bonaire and Sea Turtle Conservation Bonaire have teamed up for the first Quarterly Clean Up Dive of 2018.

A total of 116 Volunteers eagerly took part removing 1,171 items removed from the reef almost 475 kg of rubbish. 46% of the items removed were plastic. An estimated .85 km of fishing line; most abundant items: 25 balloons, 196 cigarette filters, 31 shoes/flip flops, and 59 straw/stirrers.

Following the morning Quarterly Clean Up Dive , participants were invited to come together to a Potluck BBQ held at the Dive Friends Bonaire Hamlet Oasis location.

At the BBQ the trash tally results were announced, and we shared how much and what was removed from the reef. Generous local sponsors donate prizes for a special raffle for the volunteers. Captain Cleanup Caitlin Hale was helped by DFB Staff member Pauline Rmblt in the winner announcements.
