Kralendijk- Kralendijk- Did Clark Abraham hurt his estranged wife Christel Engels during a tussle or not, was there an issue of illegal trespassing or not and did Abraham stalk Engels or not? These were the tree cental questions today in the court case against former commissioner and PDB-leader Clark Abraham.

Although the judge will not make the verdict known until February 28, Abraham will in any case be a free man once again. Abraham had been in provisional detention again since January 20, after it came to a scuffle between Abraham and the new partner of his estranged wife, V. Soenchit.

A lot of discussion had arisen in social- and local media about the fight between Soenchit and Abraham, after video images seemed to suggest that it was actually Soenchit who hit Abraham first and not vice versa.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office demanded that Abraham be sentenced to no less than 128 days in prison, of which 90 days conditionally, with a probation period of 3 years and under a number of special conditions, such as psychological treatment and a contacting ban for both Engels and Soenchit.

Abraham’s lawyer, mr. Edward Winkel, spent quite some time in refuting the charges against his client. According to Winkel, the whole matter was actually quite different as painted by the Public Prosecutor’s office. Winkel therefore requested acquittal and immediate release for Abraham. Judge De Kort went along with the immediate release of Abraham, but will only give his verdict on February 28 as to the charges brought forth against Abraham. De Kort also ruled that the contact ban with Engels and Soenchit should be maintained in the meantime.

Abraham was also given the opportunity by Judge De Kort to have the final word, which opportunity he used to state his case. The judge decided that Abraham would have to be released again by 9 o’clock tonight.
