Oranjestad, Aruba- According to the online publication Aviación Al Dia aviacionaldia.com, Aruba Airlines now executes the shortest international flight in the world.

Aruba Airlines recently inaugurated a flight between the Reina Beatrix Airport of Aruba and the Venezuelan city of Punto Fijo.

According to Aviación Al Dia, it takes only 8 minutes to cover the 90 kilometers that separate both countries. But, so they write, depending on weather conditions, the flight can actually be completed in a mere 6 minutes.

Aviacion Al Dia also points out that the flights, with a price tag of 215 US Dollars are also quite expensive. Flights to Punto Fijo are exacuted twice a week (on Monday and Friday).

According to the website, Aruba Airlines new flight replaces the record for shortest international flight, previously held by airline People’s Viennaline, which in 2006 launched the route Friedrichshafen (Germany) – St. Gallen (Switzerland) and also lasted 8 minutes. The route was however dropped by the airline due to low demand.

The shortest commercial cabotage (national) flight in the world is still the Loganair company route, which links Westray and Papa Westray, in Scotland, in 2 minutes.
