Austrian Band to Perform in St. Eustatius

Oranjestad, St. Eustatius- A musical band from Austria will be performing on November 8th at the Boardwalk in support of work of the Mega D Youth Foundation (MDYF).

The performance at the Boardwalk will be followed up with an ‘unplugged’ session at the Old Gin House on November 10th, 2019.

According to Werner Leschanowsky from the Boardwalk Cafe, all artists will be performing for free in an effort to generate as much funds for MDYF as possible.

“I think Mega D is doing a great job over here on the island with our youth, that needs to be supported. The musicians are all professionals from Austria playing in different bands. They are friends of mine who have put a band together specially for Statia”, said Leschanowsky in conversation with the BES-Reporter.

Wristbands and rubber ducks

The singer of the impromptu band, Romana, already performed on the island with a local band a couple of times during in the years 2006 and 2007. Romana decided to put a band together and got all musicians to pay their own ticket fare to Statia. “They all feel that supporting MDYF is a worthy cause”, explains Leschanowsky.

During the performance at the Board Walk and Gin House, rubber bands and rubber ducks will be sold in order to generate as much funds as possible for MDYF.

The initiative got support from some other entrepreneurs on the island who have, free of charge, provided accommodation or necessary support to help the initiative.

“Not only will this be great fun and something different for the island, but together we will be supporting the good cause”, according to Leschanowsky.
