Kralendijk- Bonaire has, once again, a new government coalition which dubbed itself the Seed of Hope coalition. The coalition is formed by two members of the Democratic Party (Robby Beukenboom and Marugia Janga), UPB-leader James Kroon and indepedent (but soon-to-be UPB again) island council members Jeanoushka Raphaela and Esther Bernabela.

A new coalition was necessary after Raphaela last week withdrew her support from the coalition that had just a few weeks earlier been formed by herself, together with the DP-fraction of Michael Pieters and Clark Abraham and the MPB of party leaders Elvins Tjin-Asjoe.

Observers feel that the new coalition will be just as unstable as the previous one, as this coalition will also depend on the bare of 5 seats in the island council.

Peculiar is also the fact that the new coalition on Tuesday evening named James Kroon as new commissioner to the Executive Council, while both Clark Abraham and Nina den Heyer (MPB) are also still part of the Executive Council. This effectively means that the Executive Concil is formed by two rivaling coalitions in the Island Council.

As Abraham and Den Heyer tendered their resignation according to article 55 of the Wolbes, both can still stay in position for a maximum of 30 days, or till the moment in time the island council names new commissioners in their place. The political instability on the island has, with the latest developments, only increased while the island risks becoming the political laughing stock of the six islands formerly known as the Netherlands Antilles.
