Demolition of Old Prison May Cause some Nuisance

The old prison is located in the center of Kralendijk, and demolition work may therefore cause some temporary nuisance.

Kralendijk- On Monday, October 28th, the demolition of the former Correctional Institution Caribbean Netherlands (JICN) started.

Starting Thursday, the 31st, the demolition of the outer walls of the former prison in Playa will start. For safety reasons, various parking areas and the Kaya Hermandad are partially closed for certain periods of time. The entire demolition is scheduled to take until the end of January 2020.

Fences from October 31
Commissioned by the Central Government Real Estate Agency (Rijksvastgoedbedrijf) and the Public Entity Bonaire, the contractor will execute and coordinate the demolition of the complex. A start will be made with the partial demolition of the southern outer wall. Fences and screens will be installed here as of October 31st to ensure the safety around the complex and to minimize the nuisance caused by noise and debris. The existing pre-school is personally informed of the demolition, as are the occupants of the adjacent home.

Limited parking from November 21st to December 5th
RCN requests residents to take into account the limited parking options in the period from November 21st to December 5th. The entrance to the parking lot adjacent to the Julio A. Abraham Boulevard will be closed during this period. Additionally Kaya Hermandad will be partially and temporarily closed. Road users are asked to keep this road as free as possible because the police uses it  to approach the police station.
