Kralendijk – Department of Society and Care has held a successful activity through its Social Support and Labor department (MOA where children could get a free haircut at the Tera Kòrá community center.

The reason for the activity was the completion of a basic training in hairdressing skills in which 9 young adults participated. A total of 6 participants from different neighborhoods have successfully completed the hairdresser training organized by Niki ’B Barbershop.

The participants, under the supervision of teacher Fredlyn Jansen, have shown that they have mastered various cutting and shaving techniques and have cut 25 children together. For the brand new barbers this was a way to give something back to the community. As one of the barbers indicated, he was surprised to discover that he had talent for this.

With the obtained certificate, the brand-new barbers can work in a barbershop or as a self-employed person. MOA will guide the barbers where necessary.

Partly in view of the success of the activity, the free haircuts are offered to children once a month in the Tera Kòrá neighborhood center. This is done under the leadership of the social neighborhood team.

The Public Entity Bonaire continues to work through the Department of Society and Care to promote the self-reliance of citizens and participation in the neighborhood.
