Kralendijk- Arie Boers will soon grow healthy vegetables and herbs in his own greenhouses. By means of the new project, several jobs will be created. Broers also aspires to offer training in horticulture at his company.

In the past Broers already produced vegetables and herbs at the Krusada Foundation. In 2016 he left for the Netherlands, but after about a year he already started to miss Bonaire, the work in the greenhouse and the direct contact with the customers. Last summer, Jan Jaap van Almenkerk of POP Bonaire in the Netherlands spoke extensively with Broers and his wife Tessa about the opportunities to start their own business on Bonaire. They then conducted a market survey and drafted a business plan. Now they have taken the step to make the new project come true. Tessa has found a job in health care and Arie started with microgreens that he supplies to restaurants and private individuals, see Facebook/Freshcress Bonaire.

Broers comes from a family of vegetable growers and has followed an advanced horticultural education. On Bonaire, he showed by trial and error that professional vegetable cultivation is possible on the island. In collaboration with POP Bonaire he wrote the manual “Professional vegetable cultivation on Bonaire”. This handbook can be requested via popbonaire@gmail.com.
