Kralendijk – The ‘Masterplan 2030 conference’ was succesfully kicked off this morning in the Courtyard-by-Marriot hotel in Bonaire.

Island Governor Edison Rijna was the first speaker. Rijna expressed the hope that in the year 2030 poverty would no longer exist in Bonaire. Rijna said that, just as he had wishes, other people also have wishes and the idea is to talk about all those wishes to help shape the future of the island.

Rijna called on the participants of the conference to think out-of-the-box and to work together on the future of Bonaire. After Rijna, it was the turn of the Commissioner James Kroon to tell about plans in his portfolio. Among other things, Kroon spoke about the master plan for reconstructing roads and the construction of a cycle path network.

Commissioner Elvis Tjin Asjoe sketched a picture of the future in which a tourist comes to the island in 2030 and experiences all the different ways that Bonaire can be experienced as true Blue Destination.

Commissioner Nina den Heyer expressed the wish that in 2030 the socially disadvantaged in Bonaire would have the same basic facilities as in the European part of the Kingdom.

The signing of a MoU with ‘Green Destinations’ was one of the highlights of the morning. Green Destinations is going to help the island to meet all conditions so that the island can get certified as a Blue Destination.
