Kralendijk- Maduro & Curielsbank Bonaire (MCB) has decided to close one of their 3 remaining branches in Bonaire, namely the (small) Rincon branch. Earlier the bank had already closed their subsidiary at Flamingo Airport. The MCB says in a press release that they realize that the closure is a painful decision for the inhabitants of Bonaire’s only village.

A group of concerned citizens had started a petition, protesting the bank’s closure, but this will not influence the bank’s decision. The bank had earlier stated that the airport branch was closed simply because it was no longer economically feasible.

The MCB now says that it will organize several sessions to assist residents in Rincon with the electronic services they offer, such as the payment with ATM cards, services at their ATM and internet banking.

The first two meetings will be on 5 and 6 January, during which the bank will assist clients who do not yet have a Maestro PIN card or who have not yet registered for the Online Banking service that the bank offers. An explanation will also be given about making payments with the PIN card.

The MCB points out that, to register customers for an ATM card or internet banking, they must bring a valid proof of identity.

Although the bank says it understands that the decision taken is regrettable for the inhabitants of Rincon, they also say to be sure that they can continue to offer the citizens of Rincon a good service with the alternatives that the bank has at its disposal.
