The Hague/Kralendijk -The Bonaire Executive Council responds positively to the plan of the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations and the Association of Dutch Municipalities to give more structure to the exchange of government employees between the Caribbean and European Netherlands.

“As Bonaire, we already have experience with civil servants from the European Netherlands who have been placed in our government apparatus for a while, but so far this has been done in a bit of an ad-ad hoc form”, said Commissioner Elvis Tjin Asjoe.

During the annual conference of the VNG, State Secretary Raymond Knops and VNG Chairman Jan van Zanen signed a letter of intent in the presence of the delegations from Bonaire, Saba and St. Eustatius to facilitate the sharing of knowledge and experience between the islands and municipalities.

“We warmly welcome this initiative. Exchange is one of the tools to achieve the desired professionalization of our government apparatus. I have informed the VNG and BZK that we, as the Public Entity Bonaire, are happy to think along about the implementation of the idea”, said Tjin Asjoe.
