MOU Signed for Medical Waste Disposal Statia

Oranjestad, St. Eustatius- Friday November 1st saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Public Entity of St. Eustatius, Golden Rock Pharmacy and Statia Waste Solutions outlining how medical waste on the island will be dealt with.

The MOU describes how the three parties will collaborate to ensure the safe disposal of expired and unused medication and other small medical waste.

In the MOU each party is assigned a task to promote the effort to dispose of expired and unused medication and other medical waste is effectively and efficiently carried out.

Diabetic patients using insulin will be provided with a sharp container for the disposal of syringe needles, test strips and lancets.

“The cooperation of the public is required if the goal to safely dispose of medical waste is to be achieved. The Public Health Department will launch a public awareness campaign on the procedures to follow for the safe disposal of medical waste”, said Carol Jack-Roosberg, Director of Social Affairs on the occasion.
