New Ferry service between Saba and St. Maarten

Ferry Big B Makes Maiden Voyage to Saba

Saba – On Friday, July 28th, 2017, the ferry “Big B,” owned by Bobby Valesques, made its maiden voyage to Saba for an overnight visit during the last weekend of Saba Carnival. The ferry trip included the round trip ticket on the “Big B,” a ticket to the Friday night show of “Pure Madness 2017” featuring Onyan, and the possibility to join Jouvert morning and see the Grand Parade on Saturday afternoon.

This visit is intended to be the start of a regular ferry service by the “Big B,” which will visit Saba three times weekly. The ship will run out of Bobby’s Marina, in St. Maarten, leaving in the morning and returning late afternoon. The ferry is 130 feet, is licensed to carry 230 passengers at a time and is predicted to make the trip to Saba in about an hour. The “Big B” has two levels, both inside and outside seating, air conditioning and television screens for entertainment, ensuring maximum comfort for its passengers.

Commissioner of Tourism Bruce Zagers who was on the maiden voyage was very pleased with this development. He stated, “I received the great news last week that everything was ready for the ferry service to start. When we spoke about the first visit, it was mutually agreed that a carnival trip would be ideal. The planning started right away, and by the end of the first day already a poster was released. A little more than a week later and the Big B ferry is on Saba with 100 passengers”.

This new ferry service will provide the opportunity to explore new markets and create new partnerships. Adding another ferry also facilitates easier travel between Saba and St. Maarten, as now every day of the week will have a ferry traveling between the two islands. The continued development of Saba and her sister island, St. Maarten could only prove to be beneficial to Saba’s growth, and the Commissioner stated that he looked forward to being a part of this progress.
