Kralendijk – New palm trees have been planted over almost the entire length of the sea promenade in Playa. The new palm trees replace the old ones, which in many cases had been reduced to little more than a dead trunk.

Commissioner for Economic Affairs &  Tourism, Elvis Tjin Asjoe confirmed to The BES-Reporter that the planting of the new palm trees was an initiative of the Executive Council.

“I often take early morning walks along our shoreline. It always irritated me to see all these dead palm trees,” according to Tjin Asjoe.

Tijn Asjoe says that many tourists walk along the promenade nearly every day. “Especially when there are cruise ships in Port, many tourists use the promenade to walk to beaches like Coco Beach, for example. The many dead palms offered our visitors a sad view.”

According to Tjin Asjoe, there is more work that needs to be done. “There are also loose bricks here and there and loose tiles. We will also be working on that soon,” added Tjin Asjoe.
