Oranjestad- The Crater Trail in the dormant volcano The Quill in Sint Eustatius is open again, after much needed renovation work was completed last week.

The Sint Eustatius National Parks Foundation (STENAPA) had closed the trail on the inner slope some time back, due to erosion and risk of falling boulders. A group consisting of STENAPA Staff and volunteers completed the renovation work on Friday.

STENAPA reminds hikers that the Main Quill trail, Panorama Point, Mazinga, Around the Mountain (South) until the botanical garden are also open. Other accesible trails are located in the Northern Hills, namely Venus Bay, Boven, Jenkins, Gilboa Ridge 1. The other trails are still under renovation after the hurricanes.

Trail tag
STENAPA also reminds hikers that for hikes in the National Parks, the purchase of a 2018 trail tag (yellow) at the STENAPA office or the hotels and dive shops is necesary. A tag is valid for the whole calendar year and costs only 10 dollars. For Statians however, the trail tags are free. STENAPA notes that the income from the tags goes directly to the maintenance of the parks.
