The Bottom, Saba- Saba mourns the passing of the leader of the Saba Labour Party (SLP) Ishmael Levenston. Levenston passed away yesterday at the the Henry Every Senior Citizen Home in The Bottom.

Although he was an island council member for a long time, in last year’s election the SLP lost both seats it previously held, when the governing WIPM took all 5 seat in Saba’s parliament.

After the news of Levenston’s passing, there was an out-pour of condolences to the family of the deceased from many on Saba and abroad. Levenston was very well connected on many islands of the former Netherlands Antilles.

Levenston was seen as a simple man, with the heart in the right place and a strong defender of the interest of Saba’s residents.

Levenston was suffering from ailing health over the past few months. Before that, he was still quite active in the community, despite his respectable age.

Levenston also leaves a strong family legacy. He is survived by a total of 9 children; 6 sons and 3 daughters as well as many (great)grandchildren. Levenston also leaves behind 1 brother and 3 sisters.
