Kralendijk- The overflowing of the main road from Kralendijk to Hato by the sea at the Harbour Village Marina causes an undesirable and quite dangerous situation for the traffic making use of the road, and even more so for pedestrians walking in the area.

The overflowing of the road,due to high tide, rising sea level and a sagging road can be seen every year during certain months, but seems to be getting worse over time. Just a 5 minute observation by The BES-Reporter this afternoon saw 2 near collisions and a lot of screeching tires from drivers trying to avoid the sea water. The sea water can also be considered quite damaging to the cars passing through it.

The situation with the overflowing sea water on one of Bonaire’s main roads -so far- seems to cause little concern in the owners of the Marina or the local government alike.

It should also be noted that when there are cruise ships docked at the pier, there are many cruise ship passengers who walk from Kralendijk to Coco Beach and are passing the potentially dangerous area. It seems like a matter of time before a serious traffic accident happens due to the arising situation.

The road in question, Kaya Gobernador N. Debrot, is already one of the more dangerous roads and knows many accidents each and every year near the yacht harbor, some of which have already been proven fatal.
