The Hague- The permanent committee for Kingdom Affairs of the Dutch Second Chamber has asked State Secretary Raymond Knops a number of questions in relation to Winair.

Knops was asked to provide a so-called fact sheet with basic data about the Sint Maarten based and owned airline, detailing the ownership situation, key performance indicators, number of employees, number of job positions, the financial situation over the past 5 years, salary level of the top, flight tax for the different islands.

The Committee also wants to know from Knops if it is true that flights to Saba and Sint Eustatius are regularly canceled in favor of flights to St Barths.

Finally the Committee asked for an overview of the flight prices between the islands with different airlines?

The questions to Knops come after a recent visit by members of the Committee to the Windward Islands. Especially St. Eustatius, and to a lesser degree on Saba, lot of criticism can be heard about Winair, which as a dominant position on the local airline market. There is criticism about the flight schedules the airline executes, the prices for flights to especially St. Eustatius and Saba and the fact that Management seems to have little ear for desires from the 2 smallest BES-islands when it comes to airlift to and from the islands.

With the questions to Knops, hopefully there will be some more inside to the situation at the carrier, which is still pretty much in a state of recovery after damage inflicted by the passing of hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017.
