The Bottom, Saba – The Public Entity Saba and the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK) have asked Milieu Centraal, a Dutch consumer information organization that specializes in energy saving methods and sustainability, to carry out a survey on energy use in Saban households. Residents are asked to fill in a questionnaire. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf-DesYuQAs3H-CTnpwyrYnSyAM-8QcH-49tnJC68C1LjQLPA/viewform?vc=0&c=0&w=1

In order to get more information and to develop a program that will directly benefit households, this questionnaire was drafted by Milieu Centraal and the Public Entity Saba with questions about, for example, the number and type of appliances in one’s home and the use of these appliances. Saba Electric Company (SEC) was consulted to get first insights in what factors determine the height of the electricity bill.

Next to this survey, the Public Entity Saba and Milieu Centraal will work on collecting more information through for example in-depth interviews, to learn exactly what possibilities there are to save energy.

Based on the information collected in the study, the Public Entity Saba, together with Milieu Centraal, aims to develop a communication campaign with practical tips to assist people in reducing their electricity bill, thereby making a small step in reducing the high cost of living on the island. The campaign will be developed with advice from Milieu Centraal.

The Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations underlines the importance of sustainability and provides the funding for the activities of Milieu Centraal. Milieu Centraal has a lot of experience in sustainability and energy saving measures. For almost 25 years, the NGO has advised Dutch consumers on this topic. Info: www.milieucentraal.nl
