The future of work

The focus of the meeting is on how the Blue Destination project can lead to more or different types of jobs.

Kralendijk- WeConnect and the Chamber of Commerce (KvK) this Tuesday will organize the meeting ‘The Future of Work, through Blue Destination’. The focus is on labor market development on Bonaire and how the Blue Destination project can lead to more or different types of jobs. Guests are HR professionals from both the government and the private sector.

Director Dick ter Burg of the Chamber of Commerce will explain the concept of Blue Destination and especially the opportunities for entrepreneurs.

WeConnect chairman Tanja Fraai presents the offer from the Netherlands when it comes to the influx of young professionals into the labor market on Bonaire: “We encourage students with intermediate and higher vocational education and university students to return to the islands and contribute their bit. This generation of young employees brings fresh ideas that can fit in well with Blue Destination as the future of work changes through digitization and technological developments”, according to Fraai.

HR Managers play important role
According to WeConnect, HR Managers are important links in the process of future-oriented work; how do you train existing employees and what skills do you require from new employees? What kind of jobs will disappear and which jobs will come in 5 or 10 years? These kinds of topics are discussed by HR Consultant Judith Brekelmans and HR Manager Arriana Lo-A-Njoe, the latter being chairman of the newly established HR Network Bonaire.

On behalf of the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), manager Quintin Knuf provides insight into the labor market potential and the economic sectors – for example tourism and construction – that are important and may grow in the future. The second part of ‘The Future of Work’ afternoon is interactive; Under the guidance of trainees from the TOP Trainee project, guests will brainstorm about the themes and thus bring each other new ideas about labor market development. The meeting ends with a networking drink.
