Kralendijk- Warehouse Bonaire on Kaya Industria, has once again come out on top, when it comes to the level of prices of products sold. Zhung Kong Supermarket, in the Hato Neighborhood this time turned out to be the most expensive supermarket on the island.

In the monthly price comparison of consumer organizations Unkobon, FTpKB and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the ranking of the four cheapest and the four most expensive supermarkets remains stable.

In the middle group some developments can be noted. For example, Rincon City has sharpened its purchasing policy and now also offcers cheaper alternatives for the expensive A-brands in the range. The supermarket has therefore become considerably cheaper and rose from the ninth to the fifth place of most affordable supermarkets on the island. Lucky Supermarket, one of the cheaper supermarkets in August, is slowly moving towards the more expensive supermarkets.

Overall, there was little in the ranking for the month of December, compared to November 2018. In a number of supermarkets, an average decrease in the price of items was visible in some supermarkets. Some supermarkets that became more expensive in November, compensated for this in December with a reduction in price on certain items.

More interest in cheaper brands

The observers, carrying out the study, also saw that the cheaper brands were often sold out in December. This is an indication that an increasing number of consumers consciously opt for the cheaper alternatives. If the cheaper brand is sold out, often only a much more expensive brand is available. This causes relatively big price fluctuations for certain products in a supermarket.
