Winair Names Airplaine after Gerrit Draai

Members of the Winair Supervisory Board, Management and Gerrit Draai’s widow at the ceremony which took place earlier this week.

Philipsburg– WINAIR earlier honored former Supervisory Board member Gerrit Draai, who served as Vice President of WINAIR’S Supervisory Board of Directors from 2010 until his passing in July of 2018.

Draai, with his keen eye and attention to detail was instrumental in the financial and operational turn around at WINAIR upon transfer of the shares of WINAIR to Country St. Maarten and the Netherlands after the dismantling of the former Netherland Antilles.

Draai was a retired Vice President of the Dutch airline Martinair and a consummate airline professional with a 35 year plus career in the aviation industry.

According to WINAIR’s Board and Management, Draai served with distinction and with his expertise assisted the WINAIR team with distinction.

According to speakers at the ceremony, Draai will be remembered by those who had the pleasure to work with him.

Draai’s widow, Maartje Draai, was invited to Sint Maarten to attend a ceremony at WINAIR’s hanger to witness the naming of one of their aircraft in memory of Draai. Mrs. Draai was also handed a plaque of appreciation from the small group of the WINAIR team who worked with Draai during the mission of transforming WINAIR to become a viable and vital player in the Northeast Caribbean region.
