Kralendijk- In spite of the hope and desire of many, Bonaire’s air space will remain closed for flights from the US till at least January 15, 2021.
This is written in a letter sent today to Dutch Parliament by the Minister of Infrastructure & Water Management.
“The Ministries are working in consultation with the islands on setting up an instrument that will monitor flight bans. This alternative instrument will increase the possibility of travel to the BES islands and also prevent this from becoming large-scale import of Covid infections”, according to the letter signed by Minister Cora van Nieuwenhuizen.
The Minster also writes that this alternative instrument is not in place as of yet. “It is currently expected that an alternative can be put into effect. take effect from January 15, 2021”, according to Van Nieuwenhuizen.
Transit option
While Bonaire’s airspace remains closed for direct flights, travelers out of the US do have the option to fly through Curaçao and Aruba and fly to Bonaire on Divi Divi or EZ Air, provided they can hand over proof of a negative PCR test result.
