Fundraising Kitemanera event goes to Coral Restoration Foundation
Kitemanera Announces the 2017 Charitable Recipient, Coral Restoration Foundation Bonaire & the Launch of This Year’s Event Website
Bonaire, DUTCH CARIBBEAN (March 14, 2017) – Kitemanera, the annual kitesurfing fundraiser event on the Dutch Caribbean island of Bonaire, announces the launch of the 2017 event website and this year’s charitable recipient – Coral Restoration Foundation Bonaire.
Founded in 2014, Kitemanera has evolved from an informal gathering of local kitesurfers into an international event that attracts amateur and pro riders from around the world. The goal of the event is to promote the sport of kitesurfing, while providing participants with an unforgettable experience that emphasizes the social contributions kitesurfing can make to a local community.
This year’s event will be held May 27-28, 2017 at Atlantis Kitebeach Bonaire and will feature a weekend filled with camaraderie, fun competitions, great social events and efforts to raise awareness of the fragile state of the world’s ocean reef ecosystem. Each year, Kitemanera partners with a local charity to raise awareness and funds to address the unique social and environmental issues facing the small Caribbean island community of Bonaire.
This year’s charitable recipient is Coral Restoration Bonaire, a non-profit conservation organization dedicated to restoring the shallow-water populations of Elkhorn and Staghorn corals along the coasts of Bonaire and Klein Bonaire. Through their work, CRF Bonaire has helped Bonaire’s fragile reef system experience a rejuvenation, with more than 8,000 coral fragments already transplanted onto the natural reefs.
Registration for Kitemanera 2017 opens on March 22, 2017. Space is limited to the first 100 riders, and the event is expected to fill up quickly. Last year’s event sold out in just a few weeks.
