Bonaire Signs Agreement for Promotion of Papiamentu Language
Kralendijk – This afternoon a cooperation agreement in the field of development and promotion of the language ‘Papiamento / Papiamentu’ between Aruba, Curacao and Bonaire was signed in meeting room of the Executive Council in Kralendijk.
The agreement was signed on behalf of Aruba by the Minister for Education, Science and Sustainable Development, Armando R. Lampe. Minister for Education, Science, Culture and Sport, Marilyn Alcalá-Wallé, signed on behalf of Curacao. The agreement was signed on behalf of Bonaire by commissioner Edsel Cecilia.
The purpose of the cooperation agreement is to strengthen the islands and the exchange of knowledge, expertise, methods and materials. It provides a framework for a more fruitful cooperation in the field of language and language policy, seen from the different functions of the Papiamentu language. The focus is on cooperation, whereby each country’s autonomy is respected.
