Bird Workshop in the Dominican Republic
Kralendijk – STINAPA Biologist Caren Eckrich and Washington Park Ranger/Nature Unit liaison Jilly Sarpong attended a land bird monitoring workshop in the Dominican Republic. During this workshop, provided by DCNA & Birds Caribbean, they learned the new recommended bird monitoring protocol, Proalas, that will be implemented on various Caribbean islands.
The protocol includes different monitoring techniques for different habitats. During the hikes where they got to practice the workshop, they also saw beautiful birds like the white-fronted quail dove. Not only did the workshop provide them with valuable information and insights on how to incorporate land bird monitoring in the monitoring work they are already doing in Bonaire, but it also allowed an opportunity to connect and exchange with fellow Caribbean birders!
